Bath time and bedtime have always been a favourite time of the day in our house. It’s the time for winding down and relaxing after a long day playing (or working in mama and dada’s case!). Ever since Little I was a newborn, she’s enjoyed splashing about in the water at bath time and she’s always been very receptive to our bath, bottle and bed routine.
We love JOHNSON’S® TOP-TO-TOE® Baby Bath for our bath times. Little I’s skin has gotten super sensitive recently so this is bath and body wash is perfect for us. It is as mild as using just water and can be used from day one.
I wasn’t fully aware of all the benefits of baby massage until I saw this information through JOHNSON’S here. Did you know that baby massage can help with the following?
It’s fascinating how much a massage can help a baby’s development and help them feel content. We’ve had a few issues with Little I’s sleeping patterns recently so I thought we’d give it a try. I honestly didn’t think that Little I would be that interested now she’s a fully mobile, wriggly bum toddler but she really surprised me.
Little I lay still the entire time I was massaging her with JOHNSON’S® Baby Oil and started to get all sleepy. Usually she’s constantly on the move, even at bed time, kicking her legs about and flapping her arms but she stayed still and let all her muscles relax. It was a little bit un-nerving to begin with! She was also stroking her tummy, as if to copy what I was doing, so I’m pretty sure she was enjoying it.
I absolutely loved the extra time I got to spend with Little I before bed. I work full time and my time with her is limited so getting to spend moments like this, bonding with her, is so special to me. We had such a lovely cuddle afterwards and it helped me feel like I had really bonded with her.
I don’t think she would last longer than a 5 minute massage so that’s what we are going to try and incorporate into our bedtime routine at least 3 times a week going forward. I’m sure dada would like to get involved too but he’ll have to get the hand cream out and soften up his hands first!
I’d highly recommend new mums to try out baby massage with JOHNSON’S® Baby Oil. Make sure you do it in a quiet, relaxed environment, when you are feeling calm yourself. It’s almost as if babies can pick up on our emotions. There are lots of classes about, information on the internet and videos on YouTube to help you as well. I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in Little I going to sleep and baby massage with JOHNSON’S® Baby Oil has also improved the dry skin she’s been suffering on her legs.
Here’s a little video of a typical bath time routine with us:
