I can’t believe Pampers are celebrating their 10 year anniversary on their partnership with UNICEF. I also can’t believe it’s been a year since we shared ‘Our Firsts’ for the campaign last year. Time really does fly when you have kids!
Pampers and UNICEF joined forces in 2006 to create the ‘1 pack = 1 vaccine’ campaign and since doing so, have managed to eliminate newborn tetanus in 17 countries. That also means that 500,000 newborn babies have been saved through the ‘1 pack = 1 vaccine’ campaign and a vaccine has reached a baby every second. It’s truly amazing.
Maternal and newborn tetanus isn’t something we hear a lot about here in the UK. It is more prevalent in countries who don’t have the luxury of the likes of the NHS etc when giving birth. This is because newborns are infected with tetanus directly through unhygienic birthing practices.
This is why the ‘1 pack = 1 vaccine’ campaign is so important. There are still 21 countries where the disease is a real threat to newborn health and newborn tetanus claims the lives of 49,000. Even one life a year is too much in my eyes.
So for this year’s campaign we are being encouraged to share our ‘One Wish’ for our children. Pampers and UNICEF’s one wish is to eliminate newborn tetanus everywhere. My one wish for Little I is for good health. As my granny, nana, mum, dad have always said ‘if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything really’ (I can’t remember their exact words or the exact saying but this will do!).
Little I was born with a cystic hygroma, read more here, which was a complete shock to us all. What we went through in the first couple months of her life made me realise how easy it is for things to go wrong health wise in children and we are very aware our story could have taken a lot less positive route.
You can help us too.
For every time you read this blog post = 3 vaccines.
For every pack of Pampers you buy = 1 vaccine.
For every share Pampers One Wish video = 1 vaccine.
For every lovely photo you share of you own wishes for your little ones with the #PampersUNICEF = 1 vaccine.
Let’s all spread the word and help Pampers and UNICEF eliminate newborn tetanus.
