So our little bean burger turned two this weekend. I’m sure any parent will relate when I say ‘how did that happen?’. It honestly feels like we were celebrating her first birthday only a few weeks ago, not a whole year ago.
After stating that we would keep it ‘low key’ this year, I went in the opposite direction and booked a party for her friend’s at a role play imagination centre on Saturday and invited about 18 friends and family round for a party at the house on Sunday. Oops. I can’t help myself. I LOVE birthdays and love planning and hosting parties.
Teeny Town in Portsmouth is a great party venue if you’re local. They only opened up about two months ago but seem to be really popular and I can see why. The staff are wonderful and couldn’t have done more for us. We had about 20 toddlers running riot for a couple hours and it was a perfect location for their age group as they could run off and do their own thing and the parents didn’t need to worry too much. Unless, like my child, they were hell bent on stealing toys off friends and starting tantrums!
The kid’s food buffet provided was fab and I had made, with my mum, a cake for us all to sing happy birthday to Little I. It was a fudgy chocolate cake with Nutella filling and cream cheese icing and seemed to go down rather well, which is always a relief!
I love the paper party bags I found on Not On The High Street. We filled them with bits and bobs I found on Amazon and eBay – animal foam masks, temporary tattoos, bouncy balls, animal figures and some snacks.
On Sunday we hosted a garden party at home and it was lovely because both our sets of parents travelled down and both Rob’s brothers and their families came too, which meant Little I got to see her cousins. A couple of our wonderful friends travelled down to celebrate with us too, which was great fun.
I put together a buffet (got to love M&S food ordering).
And baked another 3 tier cake – vanilla sponge with jam – and 2 set of cupcakes – chocolate and lemon & poppyseed. We were up super late getting all the baking done but it was lovely to spend some quality baking time with my mama!
I reigned in the decorations a little bit this year and just went for giant Black and White balloons, a rainbow balloon, a number 2 balloon, normal sized black balloons – all filled with helium, some Black and White plates, rainbow napkins, unicorn party bags, customised cake toppers and unicorn cupcake decorations. Ok so written down it doesn’t look like I reigned it in, but I did compared to last year!!
All in all it was such a special weekend, celebrating with lots of people we love. And that’s what it comes down to at the end of the day, getting family and friends together and having fun.
Happy birthday Little I. We love you all the way around the world and back xo
