Every now and again a product comes along that makes you stop and go ‘oh wow, why didn’t I think of that?!’. It’s usually when something very clever, yet simple, catches your eye that will make life that little bit easier. The Doona – next generation car seat is a perfect example of just that.
We were sent one in the Dune colour way and were impressed from the get go, with it’s packaging being the first feature that we enjoyed. I love a nice, clean modern design and just look at this packaging!
Car seats are a pretty essential part of life once you have kids (if you travel by car) and so they are usually pretty high up the list when it comes to preparing for your new arrival. Sometimes it can be quite easy to get blown away by the range of car seat choices available in major retailers. There are all sorts of technical terms to get to grips with as well and it’s easy to get lost in all the different options.
It takes a bit of an effort for a car seat to stand out from the crowd but the Doona manages to do just that.
So, what is the Doona?
The Doona is essentially a car seat and isofix base. But it is a car seat with a twist! Tucked away inside the Doona are collapsible wheels, which turn the Doona from a traditional car seat into a car seat on the move. It is incredibly innovative and sports a pretty attractive design as well.
The Doona is the ‘first ever infant car seat with a complete and fully integrated mobility solution.’

Colour options and accessories
The Doona comes in seven different fab colours from the classic Black and Grey, through to the bright Pink and Red.
There are lots of different accessories you can choose from as well:
There are two different ways to install the Doona – next generation car seat. Either by using seat belts or an isofix base. I personally prefer using isofix bases when it comes to car seats, just because they seem more secure and it makes life easier. I’m all for making life easier.

We have a Vauxhall Insignia and had no problems installing the Doona car seat.
How we got on
We have found the Doona really great to get out and about with. It is super easy to get out of the car and put up and down. I particularly love how easy the handle, to push the Doona with, goes up and down. It sounds like such a simple thing to be so impressed with, but I am!
The Doona is such a time saver. Instead of having to get your little one out of their car seat and into their buggy, you can just pop up the wheels and go. This is a great feature for a mama like me, who is always 20 minutes behind schedule. Any minutes I can claw back in my day are a bonus for me!
On that note, it’s also great not having to disturb your little one to get them out of the car. There’s nothing worse than if they’ve just dropped off to sleep and you have to get them out of the car, thus playing a game of russian roulette with
The Doona doesn’t take up much space, compared to a full on travel system or pushchair, so it can be a great option for when you are travelling. It’s also really good for if you have a small boot in your car and don’t want to be filling it up with a pushchair. There’s no need when the Doona is in the main part of you car, as a car seat, anyway!
A lot of pushchairs, travel systems and strollers can be quite heavy. We found the Doona was light enough to carry up stairs and move in and out of the car with ease.
Having the Doona means you don’t have to lug around a big stroller or pram for impromptu walks, which is a great bonus. You never know when someone might suggest a bit of fresh air.
We’ve used the Doona, with ease, for:
Would we recommend?
If you’re looking for a car seat that gives you a bit more than just the standard car seat features, then the Doona is for you. We’d recommend it to busy parents who often have to pop here there and everywhere to get things done, and need a product that helps them transport their little ones around easily with them.
The Doona retails for £299, for just the car seat part, and you can find out more about it here.
