Today a very exciting, and very unexpected, email dropped into my inbox. It couldn’t have been better timing because I am back at work after a 9 month maternity leave and everything has gone wrong so far! I needed a little boost this week, and my goodness this was just perfect.
We have been shortlisted as finalists in the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards (BiBs 2017) in the Video Category.
I thought I’d share a little bit of the background of why I even started doing all this YouTube malarkey in the first place. I genuinely would have been the first person to major LOL if you had suggested to me five years ago that I would be sitting here doing this today. I have always hated the sound of my own voice and haven’t had the most confidence in the past.
I have, however, always been interested in video and capturing memories through the power of film. My dad is my biggest inspiration and I always joke that he was the original ‘vlogger’. Back in the 90s, when we lived abroad, he used to video our lives. The exciting and the every day. He even filmed little ‘interviews’ with my brothers and I where he asked us what we were up to at school etc, to send back to our grandparents. One of my most favourite things to do is to sit down with a glass of wine with my family and watch back our old videos. There are SO MANY and it is such a special thing to have. I can’t thank my dad enough for capturing all those memories, and also the times we don’t remember. My own little family now also live away from a lot of friends and family and it is a heap of fun to keep them updated with what we’re up to through the power of YouTube.
YouTube has shifted from a place where I shared and created memories for purely our own viewing pleasure (though the early ones are most certainly not a pleasure to view haha), to a place where I can try and help others. Whether you are a pregnant first time mum, a military wife going through a deployment, a parent suffering through the horror that is silent reflux, someone who is suffering from an eating disorder (or just someone who really, really likes Primark hauls) then I hope that I can make you feel less alone and give you something relevant to watch.
I’ll be completely honest and say I have often found this YouTube journey rather lonely due to the fact I am a Lone Ranger and not signed up to a network of any sort. But in a way that makes me feel just a little bit proud. It means I can say ‘hey look, anyone can do this. You don’t need the backing of anyone else. Just do what you love and it will shine through to others’.
We are up against some of our lovely friends, who are some UTTERLY GORGEOUS individuals and have this vlogging thing down way better than we do, so we have zero expectations of winning, but it is a lovely, lovely thing to be recognised amongst them.
If you have a spare 30 seconds, enjoy our channel and fancy throwing us a vote then you can do so here.
Every single view, like, comment, message and email honestly means the complete and utter world to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing this journey with us. The good, the bad and the ugly Kim K crying. We love you for it! x
