To be more thankful – I’ve spent a bit of the last month feeling a bit overwhelmed and sorry for myself. Not really sure what’s been going on but it’s been getting me quite down. I’ve been struggling with the juggle of two very demanding jobs, two (pretty demanding) kids, a not so demanding husband and just general life stuff. But then I take a minute and realise I am suffering some serious first world problems and need to be a lot more grateful and thankful for my lot. I know it is so easy to say there are always people worse off than yourself but it really is the truth. I think if we all took a minute out each day to be thankful for one thing in our life and to truly appreciate it in that moment, the world would be a happier place.
To not focus on the stats and to share more of my stories to help others – I am not usually one for religiously checking stats and getting too caught up in numbers, but I’ve noticed a bit of a shift in the blogging and YouTube community where everyone seems to be getting a bit obsessed with it all. It’s hard not to get sucked in and to start comparing yourself to others but I am trying my best not to. I’ll be honest, the paid, and brand, work does mean a bit more to me, money wise, now I’ve dropped a day in my other job but the way I see it is that there is no point wondering why you didn’t get a gig and someone else did. Be happy for them. Celebrate the fact there is work out there in this industry and build each other up. You’ll never get anywhere in life being jealous and bitter. I’ve managed to get a few personal videos and posts out there recently and the response is 100% the reason why I love doing this so much. To know you can touch other people’s lives and help in any way shape or form is something that is pretty damn special.
To book another city break – we had a really good time in Copenhagen last month and I am super keen to get travelling as a family a bit more. Next on the list is Budapest, Rome, Berlin and a few more. It was between Berlin and Copenhagen when choosing where to go for my birthday and Copenhagen won, narrowly! If you are super prepared, then travelling with kids is alright. Some might even say enjoyable! It is such a privilege to watch your children explore new countries and we’re lucky to be able to travel together.
To celebrate our wedding anniversary properly – we are terrible for forgetting our wedding anniversary till the week before and then panicking. This year I’ve asked my mum to come down so we can go away overnight without the kids and relax/celebrate. Hopefully she still can. Better check! No Man’s Fort looks like good fun and it’s not too far from us. Or maybe Cornwall. We shall see. Apparently this year is wood, present wise…not sure how I feel about that, ha.
To learn more about photography – I finally got my hands on my new (and first ever) DSLR. I went for the Canon 80D in the end with a 50mm lens. I will need to buy another lens pretty quickly in order to cover everything I’d like to do with the camera. I am a COMPLETE novice and know nothing. All tips greatly welcomed. I’m hoping to get us in a couple fields and down the beach over the coming weekends to practice my shooting (of pictures, not people!!!). So far though I am really happy with the quality of video and photos I am getting from the camera. Thank goodness as it took me ages to pick!
What are your goals for this month?
