So I’m not going to lie. L’s birthday this year wasn’t what I had planned at all. For a start, I didn’t expect it to be spent mainly in hospital!
He got ill with periorbital cellulitis in his eye earlier in the week and ended up being admitted and put on IV antibiotics to help sort it out, poor bean. By the time his birthday rolled around he was discharged from the ward but still had to go into hospital each day for his IVs. This meant we spent 6 hours in hospital being seen by various departments on his actual birthday.
Earlier in the day though we had a bit of time to celebrate, after the birthday boy lay in till 9.30am (he was up for half the night instead!) and open some presents and cards. I had decorated the sitting room with balloons and Hey Duggee decorations. He was so excited, which made staying up till 2.30am sorting it all the night before worth it.
I bought most the decorations off eBay and Amazon and had planned to buy a few more, but time obviously wasn’t on my side this week! I had planned to do a little celebratory tea party, followed by an afternoon out somewhere, with friends but had to cancel in the end, which was a shame.
He got some lovely gifts and cards from friends and family. I’ve never seen a little boy get so excited about presents being opened! I caught some of his excitement on our weekend vlog and it cracks me up every time I watch it.
Whilst we were in hospital, the nurses and doctors were lovely too. They had found him a little present and wrapped it up with a card. Too cute and such a kind gesture! I also got him a happy birthday balloon from the shop, which he was delighted with. He was so proud showing it off to all the nurses.
He hadn’t been eating great with everything that’s been going on, but I took him to Costa for lunch and got him some sausages (his fave) in the form of a sausage breakfast roll. He wolfed them down, which was good. I let him watch lots of Hey Duggee whilst he was having his IV, which he seemed pretty happy with, and he sat and played with his new diggers from the hospital as well.
When we got home, he had lots of time to play with his new toys and then it was into some Hey Duggee jammies (which matched with his sister) for his birthday cake! He was hilarious. He sang along with us, singing happy birthday to himself, clapped and blew out his candles with his sister. He then proceeded to try to face plant the cake and went crazy after getting two slices!
He finished off his day with a pre-recorded video from Dada and lots of new stories. A very different birthday from what was planned but I think, and hope, he had a good day!
Happy birthday Little Tic, you light up our world with your crazy personality and we hope you have the best 3rd year! xx
