This is a VERY overdue post, but I thought it would be good to round up what we have been using this time around and what we would consider to be our ‘newborn essentials’.
Please do keep in mind that these are just what we have. It doesn’t matter what brand you have of something or how much it cost. I’m just recommending what has worked for us and what we’ve loved!
Angelcare nappy bin – an essential if, like me, you don’t fancy trekking out to the outside bin every time your little one need a nappy change.
Sterilising wipes – an essential for that changing bag of yours! Great for cleaning dummies or bottle teats on the go.
Nappies – I never used Little Angels when the toddler was younger and they weren’t even really on my radar until I went to an event hosted by them and felt the newborn nappies with Dreamskin technology. I was instantly sold. I have never felt a softer nappy!! They didn’t even feel like nappies. I have been buying them religiously since and just wish they did all sizes in them!
Ergopouch – The toddler hated being swaddled when she was younger so I didn’t have a clue what to do when this new baba of ours needed swaddled to even consider going to sleep. I was sent one of these Ergopouches and it changed my swaddle life haha. No weird folding and wrapping. You literally pop them in and zip it up. Boom. LOVE IT. It helps that the print is gorgeous too. As they grow you can pop their arms out the side and it becomes a sleeping bag.
Changing bag – oh. my. days. I am obsessed with my newest changing bag. The Tiba + Marl x Mamas and Papas Miller is an absolute beauty and it’s so good to be hands free. Woo for backpacks.
Muslins – you can never have enough muslin blankets with a newborn in the house. We are huge fans of Molly & Moo’s minimalistic designs.
Blanket – no baby can have enough blankets either. We particularly like Next’s ones.
Car seat – we love ours from Maxi Cosi, especially with its isofix base. Makes getting it in and out of the car a dawdle. We did a full review on this car sear here and also did a cheeky little video, if you’d like some more info.
Buggy/Stroller – anyone who knows me knows I’ve had my fair share of travel systems, buggies, strollers, you name it. I am particularly loving my Bugaboo Bee 5 at the moment. The carrycot is fab and the buggy board is a winner for the toddler too. Full review and video coming soon.
Bouncer/chair – when you need five mins to have a cuppa, pop to the toilet, have a shower, you need somewhere to pop your baba. We love our Nuna LEAF chair with the WIND motor that moves it from side to side. The toddler can still use this as well, which is great. Our Fisher Price Rainforest Friends Take-a-long Swing Seat is wonderful too and has a great vibrate function.
Monitor – we had an Angelcare monitor last time but upgraded to a camera one from Motorola this time (thanks to my parents!). It’s really good and I love being able to see what mischief the toddler is getting up to in her room. The only downfall is that it seems to need charged up quite a lot.
Snuzpod – bedside cribs are the best invention ever for new parents. It makes getting up through the night to check on them so much easier and eases the worry a little bit.
My Brest Friend feeding pillow – I was recommended this pillow by a friend and wasn’t let down. It’s great. Nice and supportive on your back and keeps baby in a great position.
Snuggle bath – hands free bathing – always a winner! This baby bath is super supportive and is the best one I’ve come across over the years.
Whisbear – a white noise toy that can easily attach to any crib or cot and can be taken out and about as well. We LOVE him. He also has a built in sensor that turns him back on if your baby cries. Genuis.
