This week I got to do something really fun! I was invited to a virtual event, along with my lovely mum, by Yankee Candle to celebrate their Mother’s Day campaign – Every Kind of Mum. I haven’t done any virtual events over the past year, because things have been a bit crazy, and so I wasn’t sure what to expect and was a little bit nervous. I definitely shouldn’t have been though! As soon as I logged on, I saw some familiar faces and the Yankee Candle team couldn’t have been friendlier.
We were sent out a lovely wee package before the event that contained everything we needed to create an at home facial, and we also got sent two Yankee Candles, which smelt incredible – The Last Paradise and Cherry Blossom.
Yankee Candle’s fragrance expert, Jennifer Genson – Fragrance Development Lead (what a fun sounding job!) – took us through the history of Yankee Candle and then told us all about the fragrances of the candles we were sent. I love the story of how Yankee Candle began. In 1969, a 16 year old boy, Michael Kittredge from Massachusetts, wanted to get his mum a truly personalised and unique gift and decided to make a candle from melted crayons. In 2010, Yankee Candle became the number one premium selling candle in the UK!
As mentioned, the candles we were sent were The Last Paradise and Cherry Blossom. Out of the two, The Last Paradise was my favourite. Maybe because the scent transported me to a faraway place with it’s holiday style vibes – very much needed just now! It has a naturally fruity and floral fragrance. The top notes (see, I learnt something!) of The Last Paradise are Jungle Leaf, Green Apple and Hibiscus, with mid and base notes including Wild Grass, Orchid, Mimosa, Violet Leaf and White Musk. I love the coral pastel colour of the candle too. It looks great in our hallway. Cherry Blossom smells of Spring blooms and its top note is Cherry. There are mid notes of Rose, Cherry Blossom, Jasmine, Powdery Musk and Sandalwood. I really like Sandalwood in a candle.
After we had talked all things candles, we got to treat ourselves to an at home facial with the guidance of beauty expert Laura Kay London. We used Cosmedix skincare products which felt incredible. My skin was particularly happy with the Purity Solution and Defence Sheet Mask. Both my mum and I loved how soft our skin felt for days after. I definitely recommend trying an at home facial whilst we can’t get to any beauty salons!
Candles make such a wonderful gift and are such a great idea for Mother’s Day if you’re looking for something to get the lovely mum figure in your life. You can order online here until March 8th to make it in time for Mother’s Day.
I’m off to go light my The Last Paradise candle again and sit and have a coffee!
