Mama or Mummy?

This is a debate I’ve been having in my head for a while now. I can’t seem to decide what to encourage Little I to call me. I called my mum mummy when I was little and mum when I was older but I keep getting drawn to mama at the moment. Choices choices.

Isla is a long way off talking even though she is 16 months old. She randomly shouts the odd thing that sounds like HIYA or CAT but I know I’m just kidding myself when I think she’s had her first ‘proper’ word. Which by the way, I thoroughly expect to be milk or poo as they seem to be the words that provoke the best reaction out of her. Milk being excitement, poo being hilarity.

However, I am conscious that she now understands what we are saying to her. You say ‘sit down to get your shoes down’ and she’ll go sit on the step, ‘go find daddy to get your teeth brushed’ and she heads to the bathroom. This is what has hastened me in trying to decide what I want to be called.

I know in the end it will probably be down to her with what she wants to call me but for now I think I’ve settled on mama. It’ll do till she’s at school and then she’ll probably change to mummy as it seems to be the most common name for mums in the UK.

Who knows she might even throw out a wild card and start calling me momma which would be hilarious.
