When it comes to car seats, one of the main brands that gets mentioned and recommended by parents is Maxi Cosi. We have had a few Maxi Cosi car seats now and have always gotten on really well with them. Recently, they got in touch to offer us the chance to review their Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus car seat and we jumped at the chance!
What is the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus
The Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus is a first stage baby car seat that ‘embraces your baby whilst offering excellent safety and extra comfort’. It is suitable from birth to one year or when your baby is 75cm – whichever comes first. The Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus is i-size compliant which means it is compliment with a new European car seat safety standard that came into force in July 2013 and forms part of the R129 regulations. R129 aims to increase the safety of children in cars by bringing the safety performance of the car seats to a new, higher level.
It comes in 7 different colours options, several of which are new for 2016 – Star, Watercolour Blue, Triangle Flow and Sparkling Grey have been added to the older colours Black Raven, Robin Red & Concrete Grey.
The Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus comes fully assembled in it’s box, which is always a bonus! The first thing I noticed was how great the design of the car seat looked. It has a nice, modern feel to it because of the materials used and the actual shape of the car seat. I loved the colour option we went for – Concrete Grey. The light Mint Green straps look really good against the mid Grey colour of the main part of the car seat.
There was no assembly required of the actual car seat. You just had to install the 2WayFix isofix base in your car (if you had one, if not you could just use the car seat belt installation method). The isofix installation is so easy. You literally just make sure the support leg is int the right position and slot the isofix bars into the isofix points in your car. Job done! If you are using the seat belt method you just follow the directions on the car seat itself. There are three main points on the car seat for the seat belt to go around and then you click it in to it’s normal point. You will know if it’s in place properly because the seatbelt won’t be slack.

How we got on
We have been using the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus for over a month now and have been getting on really well.
It is so, so easy to get your baby into the seat and it’s also so easy to get the car seat in and out of the car. The 2WayFix isofix base makes everything so quick and easy, which is great if you are in a rush (as I often am!).
I love the fact that I can get Baby L out of the car without disturbing him. Thanks to the fact that the car seat can be popped onto a pushchair, or trolley at a supermarket, or just carried about, makes getting out and about with your baby a lot easier. It is pretty light for a car seat so you can carry your baby about pretty easily (until they themselves start getting heavier!).
My favourite feature of the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus is that the harness straps ‘pop’ out of the way when unclipped. There is nothing worse that trying to pull straps out from behind your baby or child in a car seat, so this feature is such a game changer – I love it! The straps are also fixed in so they don’t slip about, which is fab. There is a mechanism at the back of the car seat (under the flap) which allows you to easily move the shoulder straps up and down. Everything about the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus is designed to make life easier, which is just perfect.
The newborn inlay feels so comfortable and I really like the fact it has added safety protection built into it. It is also easy to put in and take out.
The handle of the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus can be set in three different positions. It can be upright, which is how you have it in your car to add extra protection if you were to have a collision. You also have it in this position to carry it. It can also be set just behind the headrest and you can rock the car seat in this position if needed. Lastly, the handle can go all the way down to the floor to stop the car seat rocking or moving when out of the car and sitting on a floor or surface.
The 2WayFix base is a great bit of kit. It is easy to install and he first green light shows you have correctly installed the base on the isofix brackets, the second green light means you have installed the support leg correctly and the third green light comes on once the seat has been clipped in correctly. If the base emits a noise and all 3 lights are not green, then you haven’t installed something properly. The 2WayFix base can be used with the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus and the 2WayPearl so will last until your child is 4 years old.
To finish telling you how we’ve got on with the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus, I have summed up our pros and cons:
Would we recommend?
Yes, we would recommend the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus to other parents. It is a wonderful first stage car seat that keeps your baby super safe, and comfortable, whilst providing you with lots of useful features to make travelling with your baby easier.
The Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus car seat retails for £190, and the 2WayFix isofix base also retails for £190. You can find out more here. It might seem like a lot of money but we definitely feel it’s worth it because of how much you will use it. For us, the isofix base is definitely worth the money because of how much easier it makes your life!
