There is literally nothing more terrifying than the thought of having to perform CPR on a child. The weight of responsibility is almost too much to bear, but can you imagine not being able to help? Tesco and St John Ambulance have teamed up for a campaign all about promoting awareness about baby CPR – mainly through the ingenious #CPRbabygrow.
I did a baby first aid course shortly after having my daughter and felt it made a huge difference to my confidence as a parent. I definitely needed a refresher for our new baby coming along though.
3 out of 4 (74%) parents say that their baby not breathing is the first aid scenario that scares them the most. After speaking to friends and other parents I’m surprised it’s not 4 out of 4! Everyone I spoke to would list it as their top fear. That’s why it’s so important that we educate ourselves, as parents, on what to do if we found ourselves in that horrendous situation.
Scarily, only 1 out of 4 parents would know how to carry out baby CPR correctly, and the same amount, 1 out of 4, have learnt any specific baby CPR.
A lot of adults, 62%, have learnt first aid through their employment but it’s mainly directed at adults, not children. Baby CPR is very different to adult CPR.
You may have seen the St John Ambulance baby CPR adverts that were all over social media and on the TV earlier this year, which have gone on to save a baby’s life. They featured some classic nursery rhyme characters, a catchy song and were great for teaching people what to do in an emergency.
Well now St John Ambulance and Tesco have gone one step further and have come up with an exclusive, limited edition, baby grow designed to help teach parents how to give first aid to their babies.
It is such a clever idea, in our opinion. In fact, it’s the cleverest thing I’ve seen in a while!
The baby grow features a helpful reminder from good old Humpty Dumpty of the way to perform baby CPR, if their baby has stopped breathing, and after an ambulance has been called:
It also features clear instructions on the inside which helps strengthen parents first aid baby CPR knowledge. Every time it is worn, or washed, it’s an added reminder of what to do.
St John Ambulance and Tesco have teamed up so they can reach as wife an audience as possible with their incredibly valuable campaign. There is also a video to accompany the campaign. Take a look here:
